Huge Mixed-Use Project Proposed in Southeast Austin
Hey, Austinites! You may or may not have heard, but a huge 314 acre development project named Velocity is soon to be in the works in Southeast Austin after a few design changes.
"The 7 million square foot district is planned on land just south of State Highway 130 next to the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and just south of the Austin Harold Green Parcel, where Tesla has proposed building a large manufacturing auto plant on 2,100 acres." Among the upcoming developments, there is also talk of a new 124 acre Austin Community College campus that will offer training in the automotive, building construction, heating and air, welding, and jewelry industries.
The project is proposed to be approximately the same size as The Domain, and a representative has stated "Everything about the project's redesign is to create a better sense of community in a walkable setting. Uses are more integrated and now there's more connected open space, we want Velocity to mature in a way that brings people together, respects nature, and helps businesses of all kinds thrive."
